Vestas 2MW hits 20,000 milestone
Turbine platform totals 38GW of installed capacity across 45 countries
Vestas has installed 20,000 units of its 2MW turbine platform, following the deployment of a V110 machine at a site of MidAmerican Energy’s 2GW Wind XI project in Iowa.
The Danish manufacturer said 2MW hardware totalling 38GW has now been installed in 45 countries across six continents.
The platform accounts for 12% of installed capacity in the US and 8% globally, the company said.
The 20,000 machines produce approximately 100,000 gigawatt hours of electricity a year, Vestas said.
Annual energy production of the 2MW platform has increased by 40%, since the model was introduced 17 years ago, the company added.
Vestas chief technology officer Anders Vedel said: “Installing 20,000 turbines from the same platform in 45 countries across six continents is a remarkable achievement in Vestas' history and technological leadership, underling our capability to stay ahead of the market with continuous product innovation and reductions in cost of energy.”
