MidAmerican puts 300MW on grid
Pinyon Pines 1 and 2 wind complex in operation
Iowa-based developer MidAmerican Wind has cut the ribbon at the 168MW Pinyon Pines 1 and 132MW Pinyon Pines 2 wind farms, formerly known as Alta Wind VII and Alta Wind IX. The complex near Tehachapi, California, consists of 100 Vestas V90 3MW turbines.
“The completion of the Pinyon Pines 1 and 2 projects bring MidAmerican Wind’s renewable energy portfolio to 381MW,” said company president Tom Budler. “We are pleased to have met our timeline for building the two projects and placing them in-service before year-end 2012.”
Southern California Edison will take all the output under long-term power purchase agreements. The wind farms are interconnected to the utility's Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project.
The developer's parent company, MidAmerican Renewables, is a subsidiary of Warren Buffett-controlled MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company.
