BayWa snaps up Stroupster
Caithness project becomes fourth wind farm in German outfit's UK portfolio
German renewables outfit BayWa has snapped up the Stroupster wind farm in Caithness, near Wick, to cement its presence in the UK market.
The deal for the site in northern Scotland through its subsidiary Renerco Renewable Energy Concepts, revealed exclusively in the last issue of the subscription-only reNews newsletter, takes BayWa’s project portfolio in the UK to more than 72MW.
Renerco acquired an option to buy up to 10 onshore wind farms across England, Scotland and Wales from RWE npower renewables under a framework agreement sealed in 2010. Stroupster is the fourth wind farm purchased through the agreement.
The scheme is likely to have 12 turbines and an installed capacity of around 28 MW. Grid connection is expected in late 2014, with commercial operations kicking off in early 2015.
