UK outfit WElink Energy has bought the 46MW Ourika solar project near Ourique in southern Portugal from renewables developer Solaer Group.

Construction of the project, which is being built by China Triumph International Engineering, started in July.

WElink said Ourika is expected to connect to the grid in mid-2018.

WElink Group chief executive Barry O’Neill said: “Ourika is a great project to add to our portfolio – we are delighted to have been successful in securing it as our second major solar project of its type in Iberia.

“Along with our 221MW Solara4 announcement in October, WElink is now pioneering the maturation of renewables through the generation of low carbon power without public subsidy.”
