Innogy has handed UK electrical specialists EDS HV Management a three-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract for the high voltage network at the 90MW Rhyl Flats wind farm off North Wales.
EDS HV's team of six control engineers will now manage the network 24 hours a day from its control centre outside Belfast.
The scope of the contract, first reported in the latest issue of the subcriber-only newsletter reNEWS, covers maintenance, fault location and emergency repairs on the project's onshore substation, export cable, array cables and turbine switchgear.
The company will draft in its strategic partners VBMS to carry out cable repairs, EDS group director Ryan Henderson told reNEWS.
EDS technicians are currently carrying out maintenance work at each of the project's 25 Siemens 3.6MW turbines and are reaching the wind farm via crew transfer vessels from the Rhyl Flats' Mostyn O&M base.
The company is looking to add two more technicians to its 16 strong team nationwide following the new contract, Henderson added.
