Swiss company Leclanche has been chosen to be engineering, procurement and construction contractor and battery storage supplier by Swiss Green Electricity Management Group for the 20MW Marengo project in the PJM market in the US.

The project is being developed for the regional market transmission operator PJM Interconnection by GlidePath Power and will be interconnected to the local Commonwealth Edison electric grid.

It will respond to the changing needs of the grid providing real-time frequency regulation as renewable energy becomes a growing share of the electricity mix, Leclanche said.

“The smart deployment of battery energy storage systems is the lowest-cost solution to support grid operators in their efforts to reduce and defer their investments in transmission and distribution infrastructure upgrades,” it added.
