Salka targets Americas portfolio
New strategic partnership with global investors to back wind and solar
US renewables company Salka Corp has launched a new strategic partnership with global investors to build a North American wind and solar portfolio.
Jiddu Tapia, the former chief development officer for North American wind development at Gamesa, will take the group’s helm as chief executive.
In his role with the Spanish giant he oversaw the development and construction of five wind farms totalling 518MW. Tapia also spearheaded the sale of a portfolio of wind farms to Algonquin that used synthetic power purchase agreements to secure financing.
He said: “I’m very excited to partner with investors who recognize that the best days of this industry are yet to come and I’m delighted to continue my work under an even more agile and flexible structure that will further facilitate the pace of execution for renewable energy projects.”
Salka is focusing initially on buying, developing and building projects in the US but expects to look for opportunities in Canada and other parts of the Americas.
Wofi Capital general partner Vishesh Kumar said: “We have reviewed a vast amount of opportunities globally and that makes us particularly excited to enter into this strategic partnership with a pioneering executive as accomplished and innovative as Jiddu Tapia.”
