California agency Redwood Coast Energy Authority and a consortium including Principle Power, EDPR and Aker Solutions have submitted a lease application for an up to 150MW floating offshore wind farm off the US west coast.
The partners are seeking permission to develop an area some 30km off Eureka, Humboltd County, in the north of the Golden State.
Work on the project has been ongoing since 2017 and the consortium was selected earlier this year.
"We are at the very beginning of a multi-year process but so far the response from the public has been positive,” said Redwood.
It added that the complementary capabilities of Principle Power, EDPR, and Aker "bring the long-term commitment needed for a successful project”.
The partners are working to bring the project online in 2024, which will help unlock the extraordinary value of offshore wind energy for California.
