Green Wind planning submission for 96MW County Offaly wind farm
Green Wind Energy has submitted a planning application for the Yellow River wind farm in County Offaly to An Bord Pleanala.
The 32-turbine scheme north of Rhode was first mooted in summer 2012 as a 72MW project but has been swelled to 96MW, as revealed exclusively in subscription-only newsletter reNews.
The machines will have hub heights of up to110metres, rotor diameters of up to 133 metres and tip heights of up to 166 metres.
A full-scale Environmental Impact Statement relating to the development has been submitted as part of the application to An Bord Pleanala, the Sligo-based developer said.
The development is sited in the townlands of Derryakin, Derryiron, Coolcor, Coolville, Ballyburly, Greenhills, Bunsallagh, Derrygreenagh, Knockdrin, Wood, Killowen, Corbetstown, Carrick, Garr and Dunville.
The area has been designated by Offaly County Council as suitable for large-scale wind farm development as part of its County Development Plan 2009-2015 process.
