Mott Mac aids Gabbard grid win
Advisory services to Balfour Beatty during acquisition of transmission link
Mott MacDonald has revealed that it provided technical, regulatory and environmental advisory services to Balfour Beatty Investments during the acquisition of the transmission link for the 500MW Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm.
Balfour Beatty Investments is a partner in the Green Energy Transmission Consortium, which is now the offshore transmission owner of the £317m asset.
The 132kV transmission system for the wind farm off the coast of Suffolk, which was developed by RWE and SSE, includes one onshore and two offshore substations and more than 150km of subsea cable.
The consortium will be responsible for operation and maintenance under a long-term licence granted by Ofgem, with a 20-year revenue entitlement.
The Greater Gabbard OFTO acquisition was BBI's first offshore transmission investment as part of Ofgem’s tender scheme.
Mott Mac said it will "continue to provide advisory services to BBI for its growing portfolio of OFTO investment projects".
BBI‘s portfolio, including projects at the preferred bidder stage, currently totals over £800m. Future opportunities with a total capital value up to £8bn are expected through to 2020, Mott Mac added.
