Northland Power starts commercial ops at wind farm on Manitoulin Island
Northland Power has kicked off commercial operations at the 60MW McLean's Mountain wind farm on Manitoulin Island, Ontario.
The project, which the company said was completed on time and on budget, has a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Ontario Power Authority under the province’s renewable energy feed-in tariff scheme.
The plant features 24 GE 2.85MW 103 turbines and total investment in the facility is estimated at C$185m. It was developed in a 50:50 partnership with the United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising First Nations.
Meanwhile, Northland revealed it has notched an 87% increase in quarterly adjusted EBITDA for the first quarter of 2014 compared with the year-ago period, while free cash flow also surged 87%.
