E-Pellets targets EU markets
American mill to export 1.35m tonnes of pellets a year to European biomass plants
US outfit E-Pellets has acquired a mothballed mill in the state of Georgia that it intends to convert into a wood pellet production facility for export into Europe.
The formerly shuttered Louisiana Pacific OSB mill in Athens will produce approximately 450,000 tonnes of pellets a year to power coal conversion biomass plants in the EU.
E-Pellets has a long-term agreement with Georgia Kaolin Terminal to export up to 1.35m tonnes a year of wood pellets through the port at Savannah.
The company plans to expand production volume at another mill it acquired previously in Georgia, at Nahunta.
It is also exploring other development opportunities in the state and neighbouring South Carolina.
Chief executive officer Doug Albrecht said: “E-Pellets is going to focus on executing its build-out program, and will evaluate developing other sites under option.”
