Perth-based developer Green Highland Renewables has wrapped up the acquisition of a second hydro site from SSE.

The deal for the 2MW Chaorach project, first reported in subscription-only newsletter reNews in October 2013, follows the purchase last year of the 2MW Chonais scheme near Achnasheen.

Chaorach has full planning consent and will be built on land owned and managed by Forestry Commission Scotland in Glen Dochart, some 30 miles west of Perth.

The high-head run of river scheme will export power to the local network, GHR said. Generation is targeted in spring 2016.

“This is another landmark deal for Green Highland Renewables and underlines our reputation for delivering quality hydro schemes across Scotland,” said GHR managing director Ian Cartwright.

“We agreed with SSE that the Chaorach project plays to our strengths and fits our core strategy to expand our portfolio of schemes.

“We are still hungry for new sites and are actively seeking opportunities to grow our development portfolio in order to deliver more schemes across Scotland.”
