251MW home win for BioTherm
Utility wins rights to develop wind and solar trio in South Africa
Utility BioTherm Energy has won three renewables projects totalling 251MW in its native South Africa.
The company will build the 120MW Golden Valley wind farm and the 45MW Aggeneys and 86MW Konkoonsies 2 solar PV facilities.
The awards were made under the fourth round of the nation’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.
BioTherm Energy chief executive Jasandra Nyker said: “This 251MW allocation reflects our ability to compete directly with leading international players who have come to dominate the South African landscape.
“We appreciate the Department of Energy’s commitment to supporting a South African development and investment platform in this round.”
The company built and now operates 49MW of wind and solar projects secured in the first round of the REIPPP scheme.
