Goldwind enters South Africa
Turbine supply deal at BioTherm's 120MW Golden Valley wind farm
China’s Goldwind has entered the South African wind market with a turbine supply deal at the 120MW Golden Valley project.
Utility BioTherm Energy was awarded the project under the fourth round of the nation’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.
The site has an average wind speed of 7.6m/s and the wind farm will feature 48 of the Chinese manufacturer’s GW121/2500 permanent magnet direct drive machines.
Golden Valley is Goldwind’s second-largest project in Africa to date, behind a scheme in Ethiopia.
South Africa recently revealed plans for a further renewables tender round covering 6.3GW.
