Viaspace advances in Nicaragua
Contract signed with EPC contractor for 12MW plant
Viaspace has achieved several milestones with its plans to develop a 12MW biomass power plant in Nicaragua and expects construction and commissioning to take less than years.
The company said it has signed a contract with an EPC contractor and selected an operator for the plant.
It has completed a feasibility study and applied for a provisional generation licence.
Non-objection letters have been obtained from the local community and from environmental department in the country.
Progress is being made with banks on debt financing and local partners, which will provide half of the equity.
Grass, which will form part of the fuel for the plant, is “growing well” on a 2,100 acre plantation which will be attached to the facility.
Viaspace said remaining items are “planned to be completed in coming months”.
