Vattenfall taps Veja Mate power
Swedes chosen to tackle direct marketing at 400MW offshore wind farm
The Veja Mate project company has chosen Vattenfall as sales partner for the green energy produced at the consented 400MW offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The wind farm will be built some 95km north west of the island of Borkum and will be connected via the existing Borwin 2 grid hub. Full commercial operation is slated for the end of 2017. It is expected to produce some 1.6 TWh per year.
"The project is very pleased to have Vattenfall as its direct marketing partner,” said direct marketing manager for Veja Mate, Damiano Ting.
“Vattenfall is a very experienced and financially robust direct marketer and we look forward to continuing the fruitful relationship we have developed to date,” he added.
Germany’s renewable energy act EEG requires direct marketing for most producers. In order to limit the financial risk, operators receive a market premium when selling their green energy directly.
In June, Copenhagen Infrastructure 2, a fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, and Siemens Financial Services, joined investment firm Highland Group Holdings as owners of the project.
