$2.2bn, 1GW solar supply deal signed with government
North American SkyPower Solar Energy is preparing to sign a solar supply deal with the Government of Kenya.
The agreement with the Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum will see the company develop 1GW of solar projects over the next five years.
The US $2.2 billion agreement, dubbed “historic”, will be signed in Nairobi at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit on Sunday.
SkyPower develops and owns utility-scale photovoltaic energy projects, with 25GW in its pipeline globally.
The developer has recently stepped up activity in Africa, and is slated to build solar power both in Egypt and Nigeria.
