Ontario deals with RFP flood
119 projects seek share of 565MW procurement programme
Ontario’s competitive renewable energy request for proposals has attracted a flood of interested applicants.
The Independent Electric System Operator has determined the final list of registered proponents for the province’s 565MW large renewable procurement program.
A total of 119 projects representing wind, solar, bioenergy and waterpower will be eligible to submit proposals.
Some 15 Canadian and international developers have registered 28 wind projects totaling 2247MW.
The list comprises Brookfield, Capstone, EDF, EDP, GDF Suez, Innergex, Invenergy, Kruger Energy, NextEra, RES, Samsung, Suncor, SWEP and WPD.
The IESO is seeking proposals for up to 300MW of onshore wind, 140MW of solar, 50MW of bioenergy and 75MW of waterpower.
Bids are due by 1 September and contracts are to be offered by the end of 2015.
The IESO said: “The LRP is an important component of Ontario’s ongoing commitment to building a cleaner and more sustainable energy system, and represents a key step in the province’s 2025 target for renewable energy to comprise about half of Ontario's installed capacity.”
